Macpac Hesper 40L S2 Hiking Backpack

A lightweight pack for day missions and thu-hikes. Made with UTS-coated nylon and our lightest harness to date. Tested and refined on New Zealand’s Te Araroa trail, the 40L Hesper is a single compartment hiking pack designed for people who prefer taking nothing but the essentials.

It’s made from UTS-coated nylon for lightweight reliability and secured by a roll-top closure, with an additional strap that runs from the base to the lid to lift loads and provide greater compression. Stretchy front and side pockets let you store bottles and snacks outside the pack, and the detachable shoulder strap fits a 500ml soft flask (not included), too.

If you use a hydration bladder, you can keep it inside and thread the hose through a port at the top of the harness. The way the shoulder strap is designed means that you can keep the mouthpiece close by without it flapping as you walk.

Hespers are supported by the new HeliumAir™ harness — our lightest to date. Its construction balances a minimal design with maximum carry capacity, and the internal frame is removable so you can cut weight and fine-tune your fit to the task at hand.

The hip belt can be interchanged for a different size in-store. It has two flat pockets, and the indented foam back panel doubles as a removable seat.
